...Sweepin' the clouds away!
It's Sesame Street's 40th anniversary today. I love Sesame Street. Grover was my favorite. Remember the Pointer Sisters 1-12 song with the pinball machine? Classic. And what about the mahna mahna song? That one's gonna be stuck in my head all day. Oh, and remember the time Gonzo tried to sell his soul to Alice Cooper in exchange for fame and fortune? Wait...that was The Muppet Show. Another favorite.
Big pup has been carrying Elmo around with him for most of his 7 years. He has tons of stuffed animals--a monkey, a couple of teddy bears, all of the inhabitants of Hundred Acre Wood--but his favorite has always been Elmo. I can remember when they used to be the same size! Elmo still sleeps with Big pup at night, travels on vacations with us, and rides to school with us every morning. I even tucked him into my purse just in case my son needed him when he got his flu shots a couple of weeks ago (and he did).
But Elmo hasn't always been "Elmo." He first appeared as Little Monster in 1979 and his character wasn't really developed until 1984, the year Kevin Clash took over as puppeteer, er, muppeteer.
Happy Anniversary, Sesame Street!

I just hate Elmo. I do. Jake is obsessed with him.
ReplyDeleteI wish he would crawl inside that drawer of his and go to sleep.
Forever.
I love Sesame Street though. Just as much today as I always have. And the Muppets! I Netflix them from time to time.
I miss you lady!
I've been reading from the creepy confines of my telephone in the middle of the night, under the covers while I can't sleep.
Commenting is the pits from a Blackberry.
But I'm here.
My boss is on vacay this week, so I'm reading blogs the old fashioned way, on a computer! So 2007!
We had the same theme today. I knew that either one or all of the mommy bloggers would celebrate today; because [I mean it's Sesame Street] how could you not?
ReplyDeleteCome on over and read my post today I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed reading yours.

ReplyDeleteLove Sesame Street & The Muppets. How could you not? Even if there are a few characters that are, err, less than my favorites.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite vids of all time is Sesame Street's 30th Anniversary Musical Celebration. It's my 6yo's and it's the one vid I tell them we're not getting rid of.
ReplyDeleteI watched Seasame Street growing up! Love it!
