Earlier this week I had made a list of love poems to mull over, picking one to post today in honor of Valentines Day. There were a few wonderful ones from those familiar favorites W.B. Yeats, W.H. Auden, and Margaret Atwood. But I kept going back to a poem by Billy Collins called Litany. Every time I read it I couldn't help but laugh. Collins opens up with a couple of lines from a love poem by another poet and proceeds to poke fun at traditional romantic poetry. Very funny and yet, very touching at the end.
