On Christmas day, after all of Santa's gifts were opened, we loaded the boys into the van and made the 2 1/2 hour drive to Pine Bluff (Arkansas) to visit with WD's family. I think it is safe to say that finally, after 11 years of marriage, WD and I have nothing more to talk about.
We have exhausted topics relating to religion, politics, and extraterrestrial life. And I have patiently listened to WD wax poetic on his love for taco trucks. But I think we are done. Aside from his accusation that I ate all the cashews from his Christmas can of nuts, all we could muster was a 30 minute discussion on the common cold. His argument was that the worst part of a cold was the congestion. While I agree that not being able to breathe is frustrating, I think the worst part of a cold is a sore throat. So help us get over this conversation hump. What is the worst part of a cold?

I would say hands down it is the congestion.
ReplyDeleteLOL!
I know what you mean about running out of conversations. My hubby and I have been married for 15 years and I find we have the same problems. I do find though we still can fill a conversation with things we want to do or wish we could do but never do.
I am gonna say congestion.. but only because that means you have to sleep with you mouth open..which, in turn, gives you a sore throat!
ReplyDeleteI agree, congestion is the worst part of a cold.
ReplyDeleteMy fiancee and I have been together just short of 10 years, and engaged for 4 of them. We, I am happy to say, are always talking and laughing.
We have four pet children that keep us laughing, we each have a career we talk about, my fiancee owns his own business which usually brings a lot of topics to talk about to the table, we love the same music and games, etc. So, we just talk, laugh, sing, joke. Etc.
I think the worst part about a cold is the conversation about the conversation ABOUT the cold, and the ensuing conversation.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm positive. At least 60%.
;-)
Congestion.
ReplyDeleteI remember when my husband and I were dating we used to go to breakfast a lot. We would see older couples (OLDER than I am now, of course) dining together and each reading the paper. I thought, "oh my, what kind of relationship do THEY have?" Well, when we are lucky enough to go to breakfast without kids now, guess what? You guessed it. Sometimes we are both sitting there reading the paper. And enjoying it.
I can TALK ALL THE TIME, it drives my hubby nuts, ha. BUT, to answer your question--not being able to breathe!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to do this to you but since it seems everyone else has too I guess I shouldn't feel too bad...I am going to have to agree with WD, I have the congestion! I hate having to breathe through my mouth. Ugh and all that nose blowing!
ReplyDeletecongestion is an easy fix, though...there are a number of remedies. but a sore throat that lingers is terrible!!! i am with you on this one ali!!!
ReplyDeleteNot being able to breathe.. definitely!!! Seriously.. i live with this problem about half the year due to allergies.. it is sooo horrible! I think a sore throat might be more barable.. hey..maybe i'd loose weight too! lOL
ReplyDeleteJust imagine being married 40 years to your dad or uncle for running out of conversation!
ReplyDeleteOH MAN! This is so us!!!! We have nothing to talk about, so we turn on NPR like a couple of oldies, and let them do the talking for us:)
ReplyDeletelol, sounds like some of our conversations. ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI think the sore throat is the worst. But maybe that's because we moms are always the ones having to explain stuff to the kids...even when we're sick we have to yak, yak, yak. No rest.
The runny, red, sore nose!
ReplyDeletecongestion, but I am sick right now and had the worst sore throat of my life and then got a cold, the double whammy
ReplyDeleteSore throats are miserable, but I have to agree with WD on this one. Not being able to breathe is the worst. I don't know which I hate more, when it is just one side or when both nostrils are stuffy and I have to become a mouth breather. Blah. Besides, with a cold there is always congestion. You only get the sore throat sometimes. I hope you don't have this cold!
ReplyDeleteLOL Yeah, 9 years of marriage leaves some quiet moments. But there's always politics with us! (Hubby is well read.) As for the cold, I do so hate that congestion, especially when you get that deep chest cough. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI think both are pretty bad, but I would have to say a raw throat is much, much worse than just being stuffed up.
ReplyDeletewhen do we get your philoshopy of aliens???? do this and i might revise my new year resolution
