The World Barista Championship is being held this weekend in Atlanta and I could've been a contender! Really! I mean, look at me, I made it on page three in my college newspaper! Okay, so I wasn't the best barista ever but I did discover my love for espresso.
Do you know who the best barista in the United States is? Michael Phillips from Intelligentsia Coffee in Chicago. That's who. He's going up against 51 other baristas from all over the world, hoping to be named the winner. Since the competition began in 2000, there has never been a U.S. winner--several from Denmark, but none representing the U.S.
The competitors have to prepare 12 drinks (4 espresso, 4 cappuccino and 4 signature drinks), and I'm sure they are all delicious but my favorite will always be the iced mocha.
Combine 3 cups milk, 1/2 cup chocolate syrup, and 4 shots espresso. Serve over ice and top with whipped cream. Mmmm...it's my favorite summer drink!

ReplyDeleteOMGoodness...Yesterday's Namaste Yoga was seriously the craziest stuff I've ever witnessed! I was laughing out loud at the thought of myself ever being able to do something that difficult! I mean how in the world are those girls able to do that?! I think they were hooked up to wires like in the movies...they just wanted us to think they were really doing it! that's what i'm telling myself anyway! Have a great day!
so that cute little girl in the picture is really you ali????i don't like coffee. ya know mormon, give me hot chocolate every time
ReplyDeleteKasey--I can't even squat correctly! How do they expect me hold my foot on my hips?!
ReplyDeletePutz--yep, that's me ages ago!
I wished I liked this kinda stuff, I know call me crazy but I just don't like it. :(
ReplyDeleteAli I can always count on you to teach me something new. I don't think I could ever contend for the worlds best in anything, I'm just okay at a bunch of things. Ah, to be great at something... now that would be cool.
ReplyDeleteAli, look at you! Making something special at that B&N!
ReplyDeleteI love coffee.......most any kind, hot or cold! Have a wonderful day.
I've always thought there was a fine line between a good barrista and a bad barrista. Also? Shouldn't a male barrista be called a barristo? I just don't know these things not being a coffee drinker and all.
ReplyDeleteYum! Can't wait for my one latte this weekend, although I wish it was a raspberry mocha.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so yummy! I could go for one or two of those about now!
ReplyDeleteI do love me some iced mochas in the summer time. I'm looking forward to some warm weather that will stick around and allow for some cool drinks.
ReplyDeleteI think you could have been a contendor if you were still in the barista biz!
Wow that sounds yummy. I might have to try that.
ReplyDeleteAnd now Ifeel like I need to go to Starbucks.....
Mmmmmmm!!!
ReplyDeleteThat iced mocha looks so unbelievably good! I'm so glad our weather is finally starting to warm up-- this would be a perfect drink to celebrate with! :)
ReplyDeleteYum! Coffee! and my kids would say "you are almost famous." That is what they told me when I had a picture of me on the front page of my college paper. Kids are so funny!
ReplyDeleteFantastic. I would have to say my barista is the best. I think I should give her an award (well...there are about 3 that I am always a little giddy to see)!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to summer days and some iced drinks on the patio! Lovely! :)
