Until Eternity

It's a sad time here at the Home of the Lazy Dog. My husband's Grandma Freeda passed away yesterday morning.

We are in the middle of doing all that domestic stuff that comes with saying goodbye--getting haircuts, trying on dress clothes to see if they fit, browsing through cookbooks for funeral food, packing a suitcase, and prepping the minivan for a 2 1/2 hour road trip. Stuff that you do during stories of her incomparable chocolate fried pies, camping at Lake Merrisach and her love for the Chicago Cubs.

I'm doing Poetry Friday a day early this week and spotlighting one of my favorite poems by Emily Dickinson that seems fitting for today.

(Poem #1078)

The Bustle in a House
The Morning after Death
Is solemnest of industries
Enacted upon Earth--

The Sweeping up the Heart
And putting Love away
We shall not want to use again
Until Eternity.

  12. I am so sorry to hear of you and your family's loss. I had an Aunt Freeda. This is the first time I have heard of another. She was a force of nature and it sounds like your Freeda was too.
