Today is the anniversary of the 1st barrel ride down Niagara Falls. Unless you count the test run done by a cat named Iagara. And, unfortunately for Iagara, nobody's counting that. On October 24, 1901, Annie Edson Taylor hopped in an oak barrel and dropped 173 feet down Niagara Falls. And with her lucky heart-shaped pillow to accompany her, she survived. Just as Iagara did before her.

How appropriate....hubby and I are heading down to the Niagara region this weekend for a wee vacation away from the kids. Though we're staying in Niagara-on-the-Lake, we may nip into Niagara Falls for a wee bit, depending on the weather.
ReplyDeleteNot planning to go over the Falls in a barrel, tho.
I would love to see Niagara Falls! My friend has been there and called me to let me listen to the falls! WOW! Is all I can say...but I can't say that I would go over...Maybe...Uhhh...NAAA...

ReplyDeleteI can't even get on the big slide at the playground. Heights scare the crap out of me.
ReplyDeleteNiagra Falls is gorgeous! I rememeber reading all about the people who were successful going over and those who were not so lucky...
ReplyDeleteVery interesting bit of trivia! I live on the east coast, and I've been to Niagara Falls a couple of times. It's a really neat place to visit.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would have the balls to try that, not that I am scared of heights....just not that much of a daredevil.
ReplyDeletePoor kitty must have been terrified!
