Have you ever wanted just one piece of chocolate cake? Not a whole cake where you would be tempted to eat the whole thing in 2 days--then feel guilty for the next 2 weeks--but just one piece of chocolate cake. Just a little something to keep you company while you pay the bills, or after you put the kids to bed, or while you watch your laundry pile up. Well, here's a recipe for a chocolate cake in a mug that gives you the 'chocolate-pick-me-up' you may need to tackle that load of laundry.
3 TBS all-purpose flour
2 tsp cocoa
1/8 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
2 TBS sugar
2 tsp veg. oil
2 TBS water
1/4 tsp vanilla
mug
frosting
In a small bowl, sift first 4 ingredients together. Then add last 4 ingredients and mix well. Spray the inside of mug with cooking spray; add cake batter. Put in microwave for 2 minutes. Top with frosting, a homemade chocolate glaze, or chocolate syrup.

Oh. My. Gosh. Ali you rock! This sounds wonderful, and my dieting self often reminds my over-indulgent self that I don't need to make a cake because I will eat it ALL. Now, I can make it and eat it all, because it is a single serving. Perfect! Thank you. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have seen this recipe before but I am glad that you have posted it because I lost the link. This is great for those times when you just need chocolate.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. Honestly when i make chocolate cake I feel compelled to eat the whole thing.
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea, looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteI definately always have chocolate cake guilt...this is a great recipe!
ReplyDeleteOk, You always have great recipes and great ideas, but I think this by far is the best...... I can't wait to try this.
ReplyDeleteThat is great Ali! I could go for that nice little chocolate cake too!
ReplyDeleteDawn--Your welcome! But don't forget the frosting!
ReplyDeleteRenee--I had to combine the recipes online for cake in a mug with regular size eggless cakes (because I had no eggs) and luckily it turned out great!
Debateur--I feel the same way especially since my hubby doesn't have as much as a sweet tooth as I do so I feel like I need to eat it all!
Kristen--It's very yummy! I let my sister have a bite the other day and she ended up eating it all!
Jenn--Hi Jenn! It's not very pretty but it does taste great!
LeAnn--I haven't tried it yet in a regular coffee mug but if you do (I think it will fit) let me know how it turns out!
Judy--I should have fixed you one last Saturday--oh, wait, then you wouldn't have gotten any key lime pie:)
Oh thank you so much! Please post more of recipes like this - I hate how if I want something sweet I have to make a crowd-worth. I even got a small batch baking cookbook to solve this problem.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! LOL! Thats right! and the Key lime pie was the best!
ReplyDeleteMaybe next time?
Where have you been all my life??? This would go so great with my Foldgers Chocolate Truffle coffee.
ReplyDeleteOh bless you! You're like a bloggy angel sent from heaven! (because in heaven, everything's made of chocolate!) I will get ingredients and let you know how it turns out! I knew there was a reason I HAD to check your blog today!!!
ReplyDeleteJojo--I so need one of those cookbooks!
ReplyDeleteJudy--Remind me!
Stacyrenee--Mmmmm...truffles.
Jennifer--Don't forget the frosting! Let me know how it turns out!
OMG!!! You are now my idol and I will worship you every time I make this beautiful concoction!
ReplyDeleteKat--LOL! Just make sure no one's around or else they'll take it for themselves!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying it now, but it is so lucky to have made it into the microwave...I loved the batter!
ReplyDeleteAngie
Ok, I just googled this recipe and your blog came up. I was having a chocolate fix...
ReplyDeleteAnyways, this is so good. I just topped it with whip cream and yum!

ReplyDeleteJust enough chocolate glaze (make this while your cake is cooling)
ReplyDelete3tblsp granulated sugar
1 tblsp butter
2 tbsp cocoa
dash salt
few drops of vanilla or almond

ReplyDeleteoohhhhh yum!! what a great idea!! hope you have a fab SITS day!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous idea, but mine always come out wrong. They are literally inedible without ice cream to soften their rubbery texture. Yours look delicious though :)

ReplyDeleteHappy SITS day.

ReplyDeleteIs there a non-microwave version? We don't have a microwave.
ReplyDeleteYum! Sounds so good, I'll have have to say it twice: Yum yum!

ReplyDeleteOh, my friend sent me a recipe like this once! I should try it, cause it looks great. =)
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS Day!
How are you so smart?
ReplyDeleteThe first time I heard you could make a little cake in the microwave, my head almost exploded. Lol. Thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteOMG that is a great idea! One piece of chocolate cake. You could put them betty crocker cakes in a microwave out of business with this recipe.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea! I crave stuff like this all the time, but fear I would eat the whole pan. And I do not mean just the pan of cake, most of the cake does not make it past the "batter" stage!!!

ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I so want to make this tonight
ReplyDeleteI’ve got one word for you: dangerous! I’m pretty sure that if I start this, I’ll end up eating it every night!!
ReplyDeleteAll I have to say is yummy!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my that looks too good girl. Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream is my favorite treat.
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to try this...maybe tonight is the night!

ReplyDeleteYou are my hero!! Im making this tonight!!
ReplyDeleteYummy! Absolutely dangerous, but I'll do it anyway ;)
ReplyDeleteGenius! Can't wait to give it a try! Thanks for the great (if not dangerous) idea!
ReplyDeleteIf this is the same recipe I saw on another blog a few months back...I made it and it didn't turn out well. It's funny, I bake frequently and I can make a great challah bread, but somehow I can mess up a one-mug recipe made in the microwave. Ha!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog. :)
Thanks for sharing this! My DD26 is such a chocoholic! Wish I had seen this when she was in high school!
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS day!
this is PERFECT. thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me of this recipe! Stopping by from SITS!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome!
ReplyDeleteOne word... YUM! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this recipe, I can't wait to be able to try it soon! Thanks, SITStah!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've seen this recipe many times before, but this is the first time I've seen a picture. It does look awfully yummy...perhaps I'll be making some tonight...
ReplyDeleteForget Betty Crocker...it's all about the mug baby!
ReplyDeleteAny recipe that delivers chocolate cake to me quickly is a definite favorite.
Happy (belated) SITS day!
Drooling...positively drooling!
ReplyDeleteI am not so sure I should have stumbled upon this post because it looks sinfully good and easy and I have a lot more weight to lose.
ReplyDeleteIt is however, a FANTASTIC idea. Yummy.
that's awsome...
ReplyDeleteCame to your blog through the SITS site congratulations on being the feture blogger the other day!
ReplyDeleteThis recipe is freaking AMAZING I will be making this tonight! It is a great idea!
Yes, I always need some chocolate to keep me company. Chocolate is very sociable, you know. Popping over from SITS.
ReplyDeleteohhhh yes!! thank you thank you thank you!!! :) what kind of cocoa? unsweetened???
ReplyDeleteI just finished eating mine and it was really quite yummy! I added 1/8 cup of chocolate chips to mine and it only required 90 seconds in the microwave. For those who think it will turn out tough, watch the time. All microwaves are different. I would start out with 80-90 seconds, check with a toothpick, and add a few seconds if needed. There's no eggs, so it's safe to eat a little gooey too! Awesome recipe, thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteDelicious! I topped mine with a scoop of rocky road ice cream :)
ReplyDeleteI just made this cake and although it is easy to make and tastes good 2 min in my microwave was too long and the cake was overdone and crunchy, i'd suggest a min and a half for newer microwaves!
ReplyDeleteJust tried this, only needed 45 seconds in the microwave for my 1200 watt. OMG this looked and tasted like cake, wasn't expecting that! : )
ReplyDeleteThank you SO MUCH! I have been wanting to do something like this, and since I had no eggs, this is perfect. I swapped the Cocoa for nesquik (its the only thing i had) and topped everything with cool whip and chocolate syrup. thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe taste certainly satisfied my chocolate craving, but the cake turned out really crunchy. 2 mins is probably way to long for my microwave. I'll bookmark this recipe and try it again for my hubby tonight!
ReplyDeleteMe and my friend both tried on seperate occasions, we did everything correctly but it came out small and rock solid (tho tasting good). Any1 no why?
